Man Found in Bushes After Police Pursuit

A man was arrested Thursday after police found him hiding in bushes near a farmhouse following a motorcycle chase that spanned two cities and reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, authorities said.

Rene Willis, 41, of Oxnard was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of evading arrest, hit-and-run, speeding and reckless driving following the 1:30 p.m. pursuit, Oxnard Police Sgt. Dan Christian said.

Willis was released Thursday night after posting a $20,000 bond, a deputy at the jail said.

Oxnard officers attempted to pull Willis over on McKinley Avenue in Oxnard for allegedly speeding on a blue and white 1990 Suzuki motorcycle, Christian said.

When he failed to stop, officers chased him to Vineyard Avenue and Oxnard Boulevard, where Willis was weaving in and out of traffic, authorities said. Because of potential danger to motorists, police ended the pursuit and trailed Willis for several miles, Christian said.

Willis allegedly accelerated to more than 100 mph on the southbound Ventura Freeway. When he reached Camarillo, he drove city streets and through farm fields, authorities said. At Cawelti and Lewis roads in Camarillo, he crashed and fled on foot, Christian said.

With the help of a helicopter and other law enforcement agencies, Willis was found hiding in the 1400 area of Lewis Road.
