Kernan, Curtis Key Vigilantes’ Big Victory
Phil Kernan hit a three-run home run and Randy Curtis had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Vigilantes to a 10-5 victory over Bend in a Western Baseball League game Saturday night at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend, Ore.
Kernan’s three-run blast came in the Vigilantes’ four-run first inning.
The Bandits closed to within 5-4, with one run in the first, one in the fourth and two in the sixth. But the Vigilantes answered with a run in the sixth and four runs on two hits, four walks and an error in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Vigilante relievers Steve Ceterko and Josh Belovsky gave up two hits and one run over the last four innings to preserve the win.
Bandits’ starting pitcher Morgan Reiter gave up seven runs on four hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Bend’s Jamie Keefe and Corey Kapano each had two hits.
The Vigilantes are 6-9, the Bandits 7-8.
