Rescue Crews Search Mountains for Signs of Plane Crash
Rescue crews searched the mountainous San Bernardino National Forest on Monday for a small plane believed to have crashed on a flight from Nevada.
The plane was returning from Las Vegas when radar contact was lost at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, said Bruce Nelson, Federal Aviation Administration duty officer.
It was not clear how many people were on board, but the plane was believed to be headed to Brackett Field, a municipal airport in La Verne in Los Angeles County, said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Capt. Don Belter.
The FAA, however, believed it was headed to Rialto Airport in San Bernardino County.
Sheriff’s ground crews and the Civil Air Patrol began searching early Monday in the San Sevaine area of Lyttle Creek for the plane, which was believed to have crashed in the rugged mountains, Belter said.
