Four people were injured when two cars racing on the Costa Mesa Freeway spun out of control and struck other vehicles, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The accident occurred about 10:20 p.m. Saturday, while two sports cars were allegedly racing at speeds of more than 90 mph north of the San Diego Freeway in Costa Mesa, CHP Officer Tammy Carroll said. Both drivers lost control and struck one another. One of the two cars then rear-ended a sedan, slipped down an embankment and overturned. The sedan then struck another car, Carroll said.

Injured were Tod Thomen, 28, of Santa Ana; Andrew Ball, 31, of Huntington Beach; Leslie Wang, 47, of Anaheim; and Tina Lu, 27, of Roland Heights, Carroll said. Thomen, the driver of one of the sports cars, and Ball, his passenger, suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.
