Oxnard police arrested a distraught man over the weekend after he allegedly waved a handgun in front of two neighbors and fired shots inside his mobile home.

Officers responded to a call of a roommate dispute about 8:55 p.m. Sunday at the Royal Dukes Mobile Home Park off Ventura Boulevard. Witnesses said shots had been fired inside a mobile home, police said.

Police questioned neighbors at the scene who said Brian Beardsley, 45, had displayed a gun.

Officers called into the trailer, but Beardsley refused to respond, police said. Neighbors told police that Beardsley, whom they knew to own a gun, had been despondent over family problems and drinking heavily throughout the day. The SWAT team was dispatched.

SWAT team members entered the trailer and took Beardsley into custody without problems. He was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm within city limits. Officers also found a 9-millimeter handgun inside the mobile home.
