Citizens Committee

Share

I attended a meeting of the Las Posas Citizens Committee on June 9. I sat in stunned silence as I witnessed three members force a stalemate on an issue the citizenry itself had only moments before expressed a clear, decisive and virtually unanimous opinion about.

I understand that this committee has been appointed rather than elected. It seems to me that this has to be a big part of the problem. Appointees are not accountable to anyone except the person who appointed them. Surely the Las Posas Valley deserves representation by an accountable, elected committee composed of community members that the community itself has selected to speak for it.

If anyone is listening (and how could they be, given that the entire Las Posas Valley is currently being deprived from having any voice at all), I would recommend that someone disband this committee immediately and find instead a way to give the Las Posas Valley the elected and legitimate representative voice it desperately needs.
