A 41-year-old Van Nuys man driving west on Saticoy Street near Sepulveda Boulevard crossed into oncoming traffic and clipped a pickup truck after apparently collapsing while behind the wheel Saturday afternoon, police said.

Kenneth Houff was pronounced dead at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Los Angeles police said. Houff had no known history of serious medical problems, authorities said.

He was driving his 1992 Ford Taurus when he suddenly veered and sideswiped a 1989 Ford Ranger traveling east about 1:45 p.m., police said. Houff’s car then drifted off the roadway and into some bushes and a brick wall.

Police said they think Houff suffered a medical crisis, causing him to lose control of his car. However, the collision is still under investigation.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office had not determined the cause of death as of Saturday evening.

Houff was driving alone, and no other injuries were reported.
