Dana Hills Romps to Tennis Victory

Javier Carrillo and Jonathon Lippert were unbeatable in their boys’ tennis opener, leading host Dana Hills to a 17-1 nonleague victory over El Toro.

Carrillo and Lippert each won in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Dana Hills (1-0).

In other nonleague boys’ tennis:

Cypress 13, Cerritos Gahr 5--Junior David Kim and freshman Navin Kumar swept, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1, for Cypress (1-0) in their varsity debut.

Edison 10, Irvine 8--Edison (1-0) was paced by its doubles teams, which won seven of nine matches, led by Ryan Sakoda and David Pratesa, who swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.

Esperanza 11, Santa Margarita 7--Tom Lloyd swept his sets at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0, for host Esperanza (2-0). Santa Margarita is 0-1.

Fountain Valley 16, Long Beach Poly 2--Ming Li swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, in the season-opening match for Fountain Valley (1-0). John Janssen also swept for the Barons, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Mike Shin and Jetson Nguyen swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

Mater Dei 18, Century 0--Junior Brent Young didn’t lose a game, winning, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Mater Dei (1-0).

Mission Viejo 16, Laguna Hills 2--Can Akturk swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-3, for Mission Viejo (2-0). The Diablos won all nine doubles matches. Laguna Hills is 0-2.

Pacifica 17, Fairmont 1--Steven Ly and Fabian Piller lost only one game in doubles, sweeping, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for Pacifica (1-1).

Sonora 14, Loara 4--Gabe Garcia and Greg Vecchione swept in doubles for Sonora, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. The Raiders are 2-0.

Western 11, Los Amigos 7--Brian Hansen and Shaym Parekh swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1, for Western (1-0) in the season opener.

In the Glendora boys’ tennis tournament:

Brea Olinda 15, Alta Loma 3--Du Eum swept in singles for Brea Olinda, 6-3, 6-0, 6-4, in a first-round victory. The Wildcats (1-1) play Claremont today.

In nonleague golf:

Brethren Christian 201, West Covina Western Christian 249--Cassidy Traub was the medalist, shooting a three-under 33 for Brethren Christian (1-1) at Cypress golf club.

Cypress 217, Tustin 233--Jon Entsminger finished with a four-over 39, despite getting a seven on his last hole, a par five, for Cypress (2-1). Stewart Shikai shot a 41 to lead Tustin (2-1) at Tustin Ranch.

Garden Grove 470, El Modena 477--Adam Yee was the medalist for Garden Grove (1-0) with a score of 87. Teammate Yee Liang had a score of 91 in the two-day match at Willowick and Green River (par 72).

Garrett Mays shot a 90 for El Modena.

Pacifica 373, Calvary Chapel 413--Justin Ritchie was the medalist for Pacifica (3-0) with a two-round score of 67 on the par 32 course at Los Alamitos. Calvary Chapel is 0-2.

San Clemente 294, Esperanza 299--Nicole Bloch was the medalist for San Clemente with a score of 45 at San Clemente Municipal (par 36). Teammate Don Regan had a score of 52 for the Tritons (1-0).

Trabuco Hills 209, Foothill 210--Nick Seymour was the medalist for Foothill (0-1), shooting a par 36 at Coto de Caza, but Greg Del Fium (38) and Trabuco Hills (1-0) were one stroke better.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Brea Olinda 116, Troy 54--Matt Flesher finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.10 and first in the 100 backstroke in 1:05 for Brea Olinda (1-0), which won every event in its season opener.

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Garden Grove 110, Santa Ana Valley 60--Corey Horwitz paced Garden Grove’s season-opening victory, winning two individual events (100 butterfly and 500 freestyle) and contributing to two relay victories. Janet Sparks also swam on two relay winners and was first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle for the Argonauts.
