Officials Need Help to Identify Man’s Bones Found on Beach

Share

Investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying skeletal remains that washed up near 56th Street on Saturday. A vertebral column and bones of a leg and foot were discovered about 8:30 a.m. in front the lifeguard tower by a passerby, coroners and police officials said. The remains, those of a man, apparently washed ashore during high tide early Saturday, said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Fred Heinecke.

Coroner’s investigators will examine the bones to try to determine the man’s age. Missing persons files from Orange and Los Angeles counties will be examined to try to find a match. With recent rainstorms, officials said the remains could have washed down from storm channels in Los Angeles.

With very limited information to go on, detectives ask that anyone with information on a missing adult male to contact the coroner’s office at (714) 647-7400.
