Titans Sweep UCSB on Flores’ Pitching

Benito Flores pitched a seven-hitter as host Cal State Fullerton completed a sweep of UC Santa Barbara with a 12-5 victory Sunday in a Big West Conference baseball game.

Flores improved to 4-0, walking one and striking out eight. Two of the five runs he gave up were unearned. It was his second complete game.

UC Santa Barbara scored three times in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead, but the Titans got three in the bottom of the inning to go ahead, 7-5. Fullerton put it away with five in the eighth.

Craig Patterson hit his first home run, which tied it, 5-5, for Fullerton and Kevin Duck had a three-run double in the eighth for Fullerton.

David Bacani had a single, was hit twice and scored three runs for the Titans (14-6, 3-0), who have won four in a row and eight of nine.

UC Santa Barbara is 5-10-2, 0-3.

In nonconference softball:

Chapman 2-5, Cal State Bakersfield 1-2--The host Panthers got solid pitching in winning twice at El Camino Real Park in Orange. Jessamine Maiben (2-0) pitched a five-hitter in the first game and the run she gave up was unearned.

Shannon Carlson had a run-scoring triple in the second inning to give Chapman 2-1 lead.

Catie Lacy (2-0) pitched a four-hitter in the second game and Lacee Rashi had a three-run double for Chapman.

Amie Barnes had a hit, scored a run, and drove in one for Chapman.

Cal State Northridge 6-11, Cal State Fullerton 5-1--Visiting Northridge scored six runs in the second inning of the first game, then held on as Fullerton scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh.

Brenda Iglesias and Dara Marzolo had home runs in the first game for Fullerton (8-10).

Chelo Lopez had a home run, two doubles and single and drove in six runs for Northridge (11-5-1) in the second game.
