Pacheco, Swenson Are Unhittable

Raul Pacheco and Scott Swenson combined on a no-hitter, leading host L.A. Baptist High to a 9-0 victory over St. Genevieve in an L.A. Baptist tournament pool-play game Monday.

Pacheco (2-0) pitched four innings and struck out eight, and Swenson worked the final three innings, striking out every batter he faced to earn his first save.

Andrew Petersen had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for the Knights (3-1).

In other high school games:

Van Nuys 2, Poly 2--A sacrifice fly by Manny Flores in the bottom on the seventh inning helped stave off the loss for the Parrots (3-1-1, 0-0-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly that was called after eight innings because of darkness.

Starter Angel Barajas held Poly to three hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. Poly’s Carlos Reguengo had eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Monroe 8, Grant 0--John Ennis retired the first 12 batters he faced en route to a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Monroe (2-2-1, 1-0).

Damien Ritter had three hits and Glen Wiley hit a two-run triple for Monroe.

North Hollywood 22, Canoga Park 0--Ismael Rangsiyawong had three hits, including a home run, and knocked in three runs in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Lanark Park that was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Jerrit Redlich had three hits and drove in five runs for North Hollywood (3-2, 1-0).

Sylmar 12, Reseda 0--Ricardo Zamora had three hits and drove in three runs, and Ivan Hernandez (3-0) allowed four hits over five innings and struck out five in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Sylmar (5-1, 1-0).

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Verdugo Hills 1, Kennedy 0--Crystal Dingman scored in the fifth inning and Kim Wood pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Dons (4-1) in a nonconference game at Kennedy.

Burroughs 15, South Pasadena 0--J.T. Tyler pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and had two hits, including a two-run home run, in a nonleague game at Olive Park.

Olivia Sullivan had three hits and three runs batted in, and Shaland Romero had two hits and two RBIs.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Granada Hills 120, Van Nuys 48--Jennifer Parmenter won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.00 and the 100 backstroke in 59.12 in her first meet for the Highlanders (1-0, 1-0) in an East Valley League meet at Cal State Northridge.

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Granada Hills 401, Grant 430--Juli Park earned medalist honors with a five-over-par 77 for Granada Hills (7-1, 7-0) in a City 4-A League match at Hansen Dam Golf Course.

Royal 423, Valencia 431--Scott Fulkerson shot a 74 for Royal (3-2) in a nonleague match at Simi Hills Golf Course.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cal State Northridge 8, Gonzaga 5--Jeremy Sickles had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs, and Marco Estrada had a single, double and two RBIs for host Northridge (15-17) in a nonconference game.

Nakia Hill and Chris MacMillan each had a home run for Northridge.

COLLEGE GOLF

Cal State Northridge Women’s Golf Classic--Pepperdine is in second place, one spot ahead of Northridge, after one round at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc.

Pepperdine, which has a score of 330 and trails Nevada by two strokes, was led by Jenny Glasgow and Lisa Chang, who each shot an eight-over-par 80.

Cheryl Musser and Allyson Mallory each shot 80 for Northridge, which is two shots behind Pepperdine.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Canyons 5, Glendale 0--Stacy Champy pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for Canyons in a Western State Conference South Division game at Canyons.
