GAME OF THE WEEK

DALLAS AT KINGS

* When--Today. * Time--7:30 p.m. * TV--Fox Sports West.

* Story line--Decimated because of injuries, including Mike Modano’s season-ending separated shoulder, the Stars are clinging to their Central Division lead. Joe Nieuwendyk has seven goals in his last five games and 31 overall, his best production since 1993-94. Dallas’ team goals-against average, 2.00, is second in the NHL. The Kings, 14-4-3 since Jan. 12, are proving they’re for real. When they use their size to wear opponents down and beat them to rebounds, they’re formidable. Goaltender Stephane Fiset is proving he belongs among the NHL’s best at his position, playing with assurance in compiling a .916 save percentage.
