Karl Malone scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half Monday night as the Utah Jazz extended its winning streak to 11 with a 102-96 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Minneapolis.

John Stockton scored 10 of his 22 points in the final 4:50 of the game as the Jazz overcame a 91-87 deficit. Jeff Hornacek scored 13 points and Howard Eisley had 12 for the Jazz, which is 17-1 since the All-Star break.

Marbury scored 26 points for the Wolves, who lost their third in a row.

Minnesota Coach Flip Saunders was ejected with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter after getting his second technical foul of the game. It was the first ejection in Saunders’ three-year career as an NBA head coach.

At the time of his ejection, the Timberwolves had been called for 17 personal fouls, while the Jazz had seven.

Detroit 103, Miami 90--Grant Hill scored 26 points as the Pistons beat the Heat at Detroit. Brian Williams added 17 points for the Pistons, who won for only the third time in their last 14 road games.

“They’ve intimidated us in the past,” Hill said. “We didn’t back down this time.”

Miami lost for only the fourth time in 22 games.

Alonzo Mourning scored 26 points for Miami.

Chicago 88, New Jersey 72--Toni Kukoc scored 14 of his 21 points in the third quarter, when the Bulls outscored the Nets, 30-10, en route to a big victory despite a poor performance by Michael Jordan.

Jordan had 17 points, 11 fewer than his NBA-leading average. He also committed four turnovers, missed three free throws and was six for 15 from the field. But with the Nets scoring a season low, Kukoc hitting his shots and Dennis Rodman grabbing 16 rebounds, the Bulls still easily defeated their injury-ravaged opponent.

The Nets lost for the eighth time in nine games to fall a half-game behind Washington in the race for the conference’s final playoff spot. Rony Seikaly played his first game for New Jersey.

Charlotte 109, Denver 87--The Hornets ended the Nuggets’ season-best, two-game winning streak by holding them to a combined 11 field goals in the second and third quarters at Charlotte.

Hornet forward Anthony Mason missed his first game all season because of a sprained right ankle.

San Antonio 96, Milwaukee 85--Tim Duncan had 25 points and 17 rebounds as the Spurs beat the slumping Bucks at San Antonio, Texas.

Rookie Jerald Honeycutt scored a career-high 16 points for Milwaukee, which has lost six in a row.

NBA Notes

The Portland Trail Blazers placed forward Carlos Rogers on the injured list because of fluid on his right knee. Alton Lister was activated to fill the roster spot.
