In the City Section, it may be a bit premature to consider Gilbert Arenas of Grant High and Kent Dennis of Cleveland favorites for 4-A boys’ player of the year in 1999, but they were two of three non-seniors selected to the All-City 4-A team.

Keron Wilkerson of North Hollywood and Harold Shevlin of Taft were also selected to the 4-A team by a panel of sportswriters.

Arenas, a 6-foot-3 guard, led Grant to a share of the East Valley League title, averaging 29.8 points a game.

Dennis, a transfer from Bell-Jeff, averaged 20.4 points for the Cavaliers.

Wilkerson, a 6-4 forward averaged 24.9 points for the Huskies.

Shevlin, a 6-4 point guard, helped the Toreadors to their first league title since 1992.
