Charles Hitting .351 for Shreveport

Shreveport catcher Frank Charles (Montclair Prep, Pepperdine) had two hits Thursday night against San Antonio, improving his average to .351.

Charles, who also has three home runs and 15 runs batted in, would rank fourth in the double-A Texas League in batting, but he is eight plate appearances short of the required 89 to qualify.

Pitcher Mike McMullen (Kennedy High) also is having a strong first half with the Captains. He struck out both batters he faced Thursday night and earned the 4-3 victory, lowering his earned-run average to 0.55.

Triple-A--Steve Sisco (Thousand Oaks High) singled and stole his first base for Omaha (Royals) in a 10-3 loss to Iowa. . . . Roger Salkeld (Saugus High) struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings, but is 0-4 for New Orleans (Astros) after a 4-1 loss to Salt Lake.

Double-A--David Lamb (Newbury Park High) had two hits and drove in two runs for Bowie (Orioles) in an 8-2 victory over Harrisburg.

Class-A--Kurt Airoso (Cal State Northridge) had three hits for Lakeland (Tigers) in a 4-1 loss to St. Petersburg. . . . Andy Dominique (Alemany High) had two hits for Piedmont (Phillies) in a 9-6 loss to Charleston.
