A driver fleeing a hit-and-run accident ran a red light at a Hollywood intersection and plowed into a Greyhound bus Monday, killing his passenger and injuring about 20 people, Los Angeles police said.

The accident occurred at Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street about 1:30 a.m.

The driver of the 1984 white Audi has not been identified, but he will be charged with felony vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, Det. Mike Fischer said.

He said the driver of the car was speeding away after hitting a car that had stopped at a red light at Highland Avenue and Sunset. The driver, who was traveling about 60 mph, barreled through a red light at Vine and Sunset and hit the bus, Fischer said. The force of the impact pushed the bus off the road. The bus then struck a street light and concrete water fountain in front of Home Savings of America.

About 20 riders were hurt, but none seriously, Fischer said. The bus was heading to San Francisco.
