Rehab Graduation for Drug Offenders
About a dozen felony drug offenders will celebrate their graduation from Orange County’s drug court programs this week.
Drug court is a rehabilitation program that enables nonviolent offenders to become drug-free through intense supervision, counseling and frequent court appearances to discuss their progress.
Participants also are required to submit to frequent drug tests, attend self-help meetings and maintain employment or enroll in school. Participants without a high school diploma are required to obtain a GED before graduating from the program.
Orange County’s third drug court is scheduled to open in Fullerton in January 1999. A county juvenile drug court is also being planned.
The South Court graduation is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Laguna Niguel City Council Chambers, 27841 La Paz Road.
The Central Court graduation is at 9 a.m. Thursday at Department 1 of the Central Superior Court, 700 Civic Center Drive West, Building 30, Santa Ana.
