Police are looking for a man who tried to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl walking home from school Tuesday.

The girl was able to fight back and break free, police said, after the man dragged her into bushes. Police said she suffered minor scrapes and bruises, but sought no medical attention.

“She got angry and didn’t let herself be victimized,” Anaheim Police Sgt. Joe Vargas said.

The attack occurred about 9:20 a.m., while the girl was walking along Wagner Avenue, about 1 1/2 blocks from Katella High School, Vargas said. She had left school early after complaining of being ill, Vargas said.

The girl was on an overpass of the Orange Freeway when the man grabbed her and pulled her down an embankment, Vargas said. After breaking free, she ran into the neighborhood and asked a resident to call police, Vargas said.

The man, who apparently was not armed, could not be found.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Anaheim Police Department, (714) 765-1521.
