Storm May Drop Half an Inch of Rain

Scattered showers and moderate breezes were forecast today with a storm that was headed toward Ventura County late Tuesday.

By the time it passes through the county about 6 tonight, up to half an inch of rain was expected in the mountains and up to a quarter of an inch in coastal and inland cities.

“There is a broad system that is going over Southern California. It’s seasonable but not real strong,” said Jeff House, a meteorologist for WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

Scattered showers and light winds were anticipated between about midnight Tuesday and 6 a.m. today, followed by a short break and then more rain between noon and 6 p.m.

The mountain areas north of Ojai were expected to receive the most rain.

High temperatures will be in the low 60s on the coast and at higher elevations, House said. The snow level was forecast at 6,000 feet.

Sunny skies are forecast Thursday through Saturday throughout the county.

If rain falls today, it will mark the second storm of the season, which started Oct. 1.

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, more than half an inch fell in Santa Paula and at Casitas Dam, and more than a third of an inch was recorded in coastal and inland cities.
