Shark Shootout Likely to Leave Thousand Oaks

It appears there won’t be many more Shootouts at Sherwood.
The 10th Franklin Templeton Shark Shootout begins Friday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks and there’s going to be an 11th in 1999, but chances are the tournament is moving to Florida in 2000.
There are indications that the unofficial PGA Tour event, hosted by Greg Norman, will wind up at a Norman-designed course in Naples, Fla. The 36-hole resort layout, called Tiburon, opens Monday and Norman will be there for the ceremony.
According to those close to the situation, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem already has approved a move to Florida, pending a fee from the resort developer.
Norman said no final decision about the tournament has been made.
“It will be here next year,” he said. “Our options are open after that time.
“I’d like to see it go to Florida, but I’d like to see it here too. We’ll have to sit down at a table and discuss it.
“It will all be up to [Sherwood owner] David Murdock.”
