Falcons Stay in Playoff Hunt With Victory

Miguel Guerrero completed 10 of 19 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns and Hardy Fatu rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown in 22 carries to lead Santa Ana Valley past host El Modena, 31-6, in a Century League game Thursday.

The Falcons (4-5-1, 2-2-1 in league) kept their playoff hopes alive. If Villa Park defeats Canyon tonight, Santa Ana Valley and Canyon would be tied for the league’s third and final playoff spot, which would be determined by a coin flip.

Aaron Barragan caught four passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns for Santa Ana Valley, which rolled up 364 yards of total offense.

Tony Calderon of El Modena (4-5-1, 1-3-1) scored on a four-yard run in the final four minutes to break up the shutout.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 48, Magnolia 20--The Tigers (6-4, 3-2) secured the league’s third playoff spot with the victory at Glover Stadium.

Magnolia running back Will Speer became the school’s career rushing leader after gaining 100 yards in 21 carries. Speer is also the first Magnolia running back in more than 20 years to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Magnolia ended 4-6, 1-4.

Western 64, Anaheim 0--Trevell Jackson scored three touchdowns and gained 154 yards in 16 carries to lead Western, which took a 35-0 halftime lead.

Jamiah Williamson and Will Ruffin each added two touchdowns for the Pioneers (8-2, 4-1).

Darryl Gober’s interception in the third quarter set up Jackson’s third touchdown, a 28-yard run that gave Western a 56-0 lead.

Ivan Ramirez’s one-yard run capped the scoring on Western’s 10-play, 68-yard drive.

Anaheim finished 0-10, 0-5 and has lost 21 consecutive games.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 20, Brethren Christian 6--Matt Jones, Jordan Bodell and Matt Martinez had first-half touchdowns to lead visiting Whittier Christian (6-4, 2-3).

Martinez, who gained 145 yards in 14 carries, scored on a five-yard run in the second quarter.

Jones caught a 40-yard pass from Asa Curran, and a play later scored on a three-yard run three minutes into the game.

Mike Lucier’s interception set up Bodell’s one-yard touchdown run with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Nathan Farris scored Brethren Christian’s touchdown on a 20-yard pass from Kyle Painter with seven minutes left in the game.

The Warriors ended 4-6, 0-5.

In a nonleague game:

Riverside Sherman Indian 30, Southern California Christian 6--David Farrar scored SCC’s touchdown on a 12-yard pass from Andrew St. Clair three minutes into the fourth quarter.
