Wilson Beats Harvard-Westlake for Third Title
The Long Beach Wilson boys’ water polo team capped a perfect season Wednesday night with an 11-7 victory over Harvard-Westlake in the Southern Section Division I championship game at Belmont Plaza pool in Long Beach.
Wilson (29-0) won its third consecutive title.
Jeff Nesmith scored five goals and Tony Azevedo scored four for the Bruins. Harvard-Westlake finished 23-5.
In the Division IV final:
Santa Maria Righetti 7, Ventura 6--Jeremy Grubbs scored three goals for second-seeded Righetti (24-5), which avenged two regular-season losses to top-seeded Ventura by wininng at UC Santa Barbara.
In the Division VI final:
Rowland Heights Rowland 9, La Verne Bonita 6--Rowland scored three times in the final 1:24 to win its second consecutive championship. Jon Buzzerio, who had four goals gave the Raiders (27-1) a 7-6 lead on a power-play goal with 1:24 to play in a game that was tied seven times.
