St. Margaret’s Shows No Mercy, Blasts SCC, 71-0

Southern California Christian punted after going three-and-out in its first possession, and it was as close as the Flames would get to St. Margaret’s in a 71-0 Academy League thumping Saturday night at Capistrano Valley High School.

St. Margaret’s (1-3, 1-0) put up 28 first-quarter points en route to a 42-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Rhett Swanson lit up the scoreboard for the Tartans, scoring their first touchdown on a 15-yard run and connecting with Jimmy Freeman on a 71-yard pass--his sole throw of the night--to make it 14-0. On the next possession, Swanson took off for a 66-yard scoring scramble. He went on to run back a third-quarter interception for a touchdown.

Darren Kelly, who had a 56-yard touchdown run, led all rushers for St. Margaret’s, racking up 115 yards in only four carries.

Alex Perin found the end zone twice for the Tartans, first on a four-yard run, then on an 88-yard kickoff return to open the second half.

Southern California Christian is 1-3, 0-1.

In another Academy League game:

Capistrano Valley Christian 34, Los Angeles Ribet Academy 20-- Capistrano Valley Christian ground up 293 rushing yards as they chewed up Los Angeles Ribet Academy.

Running back Ryan Allen scored four touchdowns and rushed for 127 yards in 27 carries for the Eagles. Allen scored twice in the first half on runs of eight and one yard and twice again in the second half with a 15-yard scoring jaunt and three-yard run in the third quarter. Dustin Smith also rushed for 116 yards in 21 carries and scored a touchdown.

In an eight-man game:

Los Angeles Price 56, Liberty Christian 6 (3 quarters, mercy)--E.J. Hall rushed 11 times for 185 yards and four touchdowns to lead Price (3-1, 1-0) in an Express League game at Gateway Field in Redondo Beach.

Hall scored on a first-quarter 13-yard run to make it 14-0, then dashed for a 73-yard touchdown two possessions later to increase the lead to 28-0.

Trailing 34-0 in the third quarter after a 59-yard touchdown run by Jermaine Jamison, Liberty Christian (2-2, 0-2) got on the board with a 20-yard scoring pass to Dante Salazar from C.J. Leeman. Leeman led all passers, completing eight of 15 passes for 85 yards and one interception.

Mike Spagnola led Liberty Christian with 105 yards rushing in 25 carries.
