Two women, a man and a teenage boy have been charged with the murder of a 22-year-old West Covina man during a late-night holdup last month at the city’s busiest intersection.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name is being withheld because of his age, appeared Wednesday in Pomona Juvenile Court in connection with the robbery and slaying of Gilbert Rivas on Sept. 30.

Rivas was walking home from a fast-food restaurant with his fiance and relatives when he was attacked and killed.

Brenda Moreno, 22, and Gabriela Solano, 27, both of Baldwin Park, and Armando Perez, 24, of El Paso have been charged with robbery and murder in the case. They could face the death penalty if convicted, authorities said.

Moreno and Perez are scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 22. Solano will be arraigned today.

Authorities say the gang members were on a crime spree when they pulled up in a stolen vehicle and confronted Rivas. They had earlier carjacked the vehicle from a woman in Chino Hills, prosecutors said.

Authorities say the teenage boy and Perez fired the fatal shots after they confronted Rivas at the corner of Azusa Avenue and Amar Road.
