SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Paraclete High, the defending Southern Section Division XI champion, moved to Division XII this season and moved one step closer to the Alpha League title Friday night with a convincing 34-14 victory over three-time defending league champion L.A. Baptist at Antelope Valley College.

Despite throwing his second interception of the year, Rob Fockaert completed eight of 17 for 145 yards and two touchdowns for the Spirits (7-1, 3-0 in league), who play Kilpatrick next week for sole possession of first place.

Fockaert connected with Tommy Breech on an 82-yard pass play in the second quarter, which put Fockaert over 1,000 yards passing for the year.

Freshman Curtis Brown rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries for Paraclete, and Breech caught four passes for 110 yards.

The Knights (5-3, 1-2) struck first on a 60-yard halfback option pass from Jason French to Daniel Acuna that moved the ball to the Spirits’ four-yard line.

“They have owned the Alpha League for six years, so we knew we had to take it to them,” Paraclete Coach Steve Hagerty said.
