Canyon 27, Burroughs 24--Chris Escobar’s four-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter completed a comeback from a 24-7 deficit for the Cowboys at Burroughs.

The Indians (3-5, 0-3) had a chance to tie, but freshman kicker Mike Perez missed a 29-yard field goal attempt with four seconds to play.

Burroughs opened the game with a 41-yard kickoff return by Mike Holmes to set up a two-play, 45-yard drive that ended with a 25-yard touchdown run by Mike Jara.

After Jimmy Perry pulled Canyon (6-2, 3-0) even at 7-7 with a six-yard scoring run, Holmes returned the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown and a 14-7 Indian lead in the first quarter.

Joe Kroells connected with Brian Criscuolo for a 42-yard scoring pass play to give Burroughs a 24-7 lead with 4:41 remaining in the first half.

Perry scored his second touchdown, an eight-yard run, and Jason McKeon hooked up with Derwin Maxwell for a 23-yard scoring pass play to cut Canyon’s deficit to 24-20 late in the first half.

McKeon led Canyon with 90 yards rushing in 20 carries. Perry and Chris Escobar added 76 and 40 yards, respectively, for a total of 206 yards in 43 carries.

Kroells completed 12 of 26 passes for 296 yards and touchdown, with an interception. Sophomore Keith Jarbo caught five passes for 129 yards for Burroughs, and Kyle Cremarosa had three catches for 72 yards.
