Driver Who Left Train Loses Route
A Muni driver has been removed from his route after he left his train and allowed it to make three stops without him on it.
No one was injured in Saturday’s incident. A newly installed computer system allowed the train to operate automatically, making the stops while opening and closing doors for passengers before a technician jumped on.
Muni officials are not releasing the name of the driver and are not discussing his safety record. But Muni spokesman P.J. Johnston said the driver was pulled from the route Saturday and could be punished.
The incident was just the latest mishap involving San Francisco’s public transportation system. Mayor Willie Brown has come under fire in recent weeks because of lengthy train delays associated with the new computer system.
