A cab driver was seriously injured Thursday when he lost control of his car on Westlake Boulevard and it slammed head-on into two pickup trucks, sheriff’s deputies said.

Thousand Oaks resident Keith Browning, 32, suffered a fractured pelvis and sternum and was in serious but stable condition Thursday night at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman said.

Browning was driving south on Westlake Boulevard, between Avenida de los Arboles and Kanan Road, when he struck the right curb, rebounded across two southbound lanes and then jumped the divider into the northbound lanes, Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Therrien said.

The taxi collided with a Nissan pickup truck driven by Jacobo Grunberg, 50, and a Ford truck driven by John Lenahan Jr., 28.

Lenahan was treated for cuts on his arm and face and released from the hospital. Grunberg was not injured, deputies said. Lenahan and Grunberg are from Agoura Hills.

The impact of the collision trapped Browning in his taxi. Firefighters had to extricate him. The cab, owned by Yellow Cab Co. of Conejo Valley, was destroyed.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor, Therrien said.

The crash forced the closure of both northbound lanes of Westlake Boulevard for more than an hour and caused a lengthy traffic backup, deputies said.

The boulevard is a main artery in Thousand Oaks.
