Cleveland 28, Palisades 26--James Bethea intercepted a pass in the end zone with eights seconds remaining to preserve the Cavaliers’ victory at Palisades High.
Ontae Chaney caught a 66-yard scoring pass from Eddie Whitaker with 4:13 left to put the Cavaliers ahead for good after Palisades had rallied to take the lead, 26-22, a minute earlier.
Bethea rushed for 87 yards in 16 carries, including a 53-yard touchdown run, which gave Cleveland a 22-20 lead late in the third quarter.
Whitaker completed six of 22 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, and also scored the Cavaliers’ first touchdown on an eight-yard run. He threw one interception.
Cleveland limited Palisades to 16 yards in the first half en route to a 14-0 lead at intermission.
Backup quarterback Carlos Flores nearly rallied the Dolphins to victory, completing 10 of 19 for 190 yards and four touchdowns in the second half.
