In other nonleague openers:
Sahuaro, Ariz., 31, Newbury Park 28--A five-yard touchdown pass from Reggie Robertson to Calvin Dacus with 56 seconds to play gave Sahuaro the victory in Tucson, Ariz.
Newbury Park senior Nick Czernek completed 22 of 48 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. He threw four interceptions.
Czernek connected with Cause Hanna for touchdowns of 50 and seven yards and Eric Sanford for a touchdown of nine yards. Ryan Shipton rushed for 78 yards in 14 carries.
Robertson completed 23 of 43 for 282 yards and five touchdowns.
Newbury Park was unbeaten last season during the regular season.
L.A. Baptist 57, St. Genevieve 8--The Knights outgained St. Genevieve, 348-132, and recorded six sacks at Alemany High.
L.A. Baptist’s Scott Swenson completed seven of 12 passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Garrett Ellis in the second quarter.
Ellis’ second touchdown, a 16-yard reception, gave L.A. Baptist a 27-0 lead.
Edward Jaime scored for St. Genevieve on a 35-yard run in the second quarter.
