Turner Has Reason to Fear for Future

Share

The Redskins are a mess because Coach Norv Turner is running scared (of being fired). With good reason. Turner has not only grown weary of Gus Frerotte, switching to Trent Green, but has ignored Jeff Hostetler, who in a fit left the team for 24 hours this week. Hostetler’s mad that he has been shoved behind Frerotte as Green’s backup, which tells you what he thinks of Frerotte.

Jason Garrett makes the third start of his six-year career against the Giants, who have beaten the Cowboys three consecutive times with Troy Aikman at quarterback. “He’s not Troy Aikman,” Dallas Coach Chan Gailey said of Garrett, a former Princeton quarterback who will replace Aikman (broken collarbone) for at least the next month. “But there are about 99,000 guys out there who aren’t Troy Aikman. He’s not as big or as strong-armed or experienced. We’ve got all those problems. A guy is a second-team quarterback for a reason. He’s not as good as the first team.”

Now that’s some endorsement.
