OCC Women Dominate Cross-Country Meet

With eight runners finishing among the top 20, Orange Coast placed first (20 points) at the Orange Empire Conference Preview women’s cross-country meet Saturday at Riverside College.
Orange Coast’s Zoila Gomez took first, completing the 5,000-meter course at the Moreno Valley campus in 19 minutes 45 seconds. Santa Ana’s Sharon Moreno finished second in 20:00, and Orange Coast’s Penni Proffit was third in 20:46.
Santa Ana finished second with 45 points, followed by Fullerton (100 points), Riverside (103), Golden West (123) and Saddleback (144).
In the Orange Empire Conference Preview men’s cross-country meet:
Ellis wins--Roger Ellis finished the 8,000-meter course in 22:23 to lead Santa Ana to a second-place finish with 43 points, three behind first-place Riverside. Orange Coast was third with 70 points, followed by Saddleback (88), Fullerton (115), Golden West (194) and Irvine Valley (205). Saddleback’s Dan Gaston finished third in 22:33 and Orange Coast’s Rene Acuna was fourth in 22:52.
In the Cuesta men’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 13, Grossmont 6--Adriano Marsili scored four goals, leading Golden West (8-0-1) to its first Cuesta Tournament championship. Evan McIntosh and Tom Carey combined for five saves. Golden West defeated Saddleback, 8-5, in the semifinals.
