Cub right-hander Kerry Wood threw off a bullpen mound for 10 minutes Sunday at Chicago without pain and will have one more workout Wednesday before determining if he can pitch in the final series of the season.

Wood hasn’t pitched since Aug. 31 because of a sprained ligament in his elbow.

Tampa Bay Devil Ray right-hander Rolando Arrojo is probably done for the season after leaving the game against Toronto in the second inning with right biceps stiffness.

Devil Ray Manager Larry Rothschild said the injury is not considered serious but added it’s doubtful Arrojo will pitch during the regular season’s final week.

Pat Gillick made official the fact that he won’t be back as general manager of the Baltimore Orioles next year.

Gillick, 61, will step down from the job he held since November 1995 in the middle of next month. The Orioles began their search for his replacement last week.

Gillick was twice named executive of the year while with the Toronto Blue Jays. He joined the franchise just prior to its inaugural season and celebrated two world championships in Toronto.
