Half-Century-Old Trees Removed Along Street
Nearly two dozen Monterey Cypress trees that had long shaded Vista Del Mar Drive were removed Monday because they were a fire hazard, city officials said.
“The ones they are removing are dead, stone dead and have been for years,” said Daryl Wagar, city parks supervisor.
Wagar said the half-century-old trees created a potential fire problem and removal was long overdue.
Workers removed the trees along a mile-long stretch of the street.
Wagar said residents planted the trees.
