Eagles’ McConnell Scores 6 Goals

Ryan McConnell’s goal with one second remaining gave visiting Santa Margarita a 13-12 victory over Canyon in nonleague boys’ water polo Wednesday.
McConnell’s winning shot was his sixth goal of the game. John Raney scored three goals for the Eagles (1-1). Canyon is 2-1.
In other nonleague games:
Pico Rivera El Rancho 9, La Quinta 8--Beau Bouvier scored three goals in the fourth quarter to overcome a two-goal deficit before La Quinta (1-3) gave up the decisive goal with 55 seconds remaining.
Pacifica 18, Loara 8--Senior Steve Rodermund led the visiting Mariners (2-0) with nine goals. Tri Nguyen, who played goalkeeper half the game, had nine saves and two goals. Chris Broulette made six saves.
In Century League boys’ cross-country:
El Modena 26, Foothill 29--Mike Allen won the three-mile race at Irvine Park, helping El Modena (1-0) to its 26th consecutive league victory.
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Newport Harbor 318, Capistrano Valley 331--Medalist Karli Ward shot 10-over-par 82 to lead Newport Harbor (1-1) at Santa Ana and San Juan Hills. Kelly Hunt shot 94 for Capistrano Valley (0-1).
Ocean View 143, Newport Harbor 178--Dianne Scott shot 46, Nicole Peralta shot 48 and Shelby Weber 49 at Costa Mesa to help the Seahawks (3-1) overtake the host Sailors.
Santa Margarita 271, Canyon 299--Medalist Megan Mulhaupt shot nine-over 81 at Tijeras Creek and Anaheim Hills for visiting Santa Margarita (3-0). Canyon is 1-1.
Villa Park 126, Downey 162--Shelly Raworth shot three-over 34 and Alison Sahli missed a hole-in-one by six inches on the 94-yard third hole for Villa Park (1-4) at Recreation Park South in Long Beach.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
No. 3 Newport Harbor 12, No. 6 Capistrano Valley 6--No. 2 singles player Audrey Adams won two of three sets for the host Sailors (4-0). No. 2 doubles partners Erika Palm and Amanda Collopy swept after coming from behind to beat Capistrano Valley’s No. 1 doubles team, 7-6.
Garden Grove 10, Sunny Hills 8--Rachel Naishtut and Jennifer Kim’s sweep at No. 2 doubles proved to be the difference for Garden Grove (4-2). They won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.
