Barlow Leads Woodbridge to Victory
Quarterback Scott Barlow threw three touchdown passes to lead fifth-ranked Woodbridge to a 28-14 nonleague victory over University Friday night at Irvine High.
Barlow completed 13 of 19 passes for 148 yards and Brandon Runk rushed for 92 yards in eight carries for Woodbridge (4-0). Zach Foster had four receptions for 73 yards for the Warriors.
University (1-2) was led by Raemone Sequiera, who had three catches for 91 yards.
Woodbridge moved out to a 7-0 lead when Barlow connected with Runk on a 15-yard touchdown pass with seven minutes 49 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Warriors then went ahead, 14-0, when Rael Berkowitz scored from one yard out with 7:03 left in the second quarter, capping a four-play, 38-yard drive.
Woodbridge took a 21-0 lead when Barlow hit Oren Masserman on a nine-yard touchdown pass with 55 seconds left in the second quarter. Foster caught a 37-yard pass from Barlow on the final play of the third quarter to put the Warriors ahead, 28-0.
University scored two touchdowns in the final quarter.
Quarterback Andy Dennis scored on a one-yard run. The score was setup when Dennis connected with Sequeira on a 38-yard pass play that moved the ball to the Woodbridge 18.
Backup quarterback Jay Nichols then hooked up with Colin Cavanaugh on a 32-yard touchdown pass with four seconds left in the game.
