In the third-place game:

Miami (Fla.) Pace 2, Esperanza 1--Alex Suarez led off the bottom of the seventh with his fifth home run for Pace.

On a 2-1 pitch, Suarez popped up behind home plate, but Aztec catcher Joe Cristo was unable to make a catch. Juarez then lined the next pitch by Doug Brown (1-3) over the 330-feet sign in left.

Esperanza outhit Pace, 7-4, but the Aztecs only scored in the first on back-to-back doubles by Mark Hafferkamp and Kent Carpenter.

Pace tied the score in the bottom of the fourth when Andre de Cordova singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Suarez’s sacrifice fly.

In the fifth-place game:

Servite 9, Jacksonville (Fla.) Englewood 8--Mark Goldsmith had three hits including a two-run double and four RBIs for Servite. Servite scored six runs on six hits in the sixth to overcome Englewood’s 6-3 lead.

In the consolation final:

Rancho Bernardo 6, Mater Dei 3--Hank Blalock had three hits, including his fifth home run, and drove in two runs for Rancho Bernardo.

Mater Dei starter James Webster could not get out of the first inning, walking five of the six. Mater Dei center fielder Mike Harris had two hits.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 10, Kennedy 5--Joey Rafelson went two for three with three RBIs and starter Travis Ingle struck out seven and gave up one run in four innings to lead visiting Cypress (10-4, 5-2). Kennedy is 3-11, 1-6.

Katella 14, Loara 5--T.J. Jara (three for five, two RBIs) and Chris Walters (two for four, three RBIs) had home runs for Katella (10-4, 6-1), which pulled away in the third, scoring eight runs. Carlos Pasillas and Jon Lorenzen also homered for the visiting Knights. Loara is 4-9, 2-5.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 4, Sonora 3--Reliever Bryan Cook got the final two outs with runners in scoring position to preserve Buena Park’s victory.

Cook got a strikeout and groundout with runners on second and third to end the game.

Starter Earl Parker (4-0) struck out nine and gave up four hits before giving way to Cook in the seventh.

Neal Maurer hit an RBI double in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie for visiting Buena Park (6-7, 3-4). Sonora is 4-9, 3-4.

Sunny Hills 12, Fullerton 3--Jared Bruce went four for four with two doubles, two homers and five RBIs and starter Nathan Hochgesang (2-1) pitched a complete game and went two for four with two homers and three RBIs. Sunny Hills is 10-4, 6-1.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 3, Magnolia 1--Iain Keleher struck out seven in a four-hitter and Uvaldo Sauceda hit a two-run single in Anaheim’s three-run first inning. Visiting Magnolia (6-6, 4-3) scored in the third. The Colonists are 4-10, 1-6.

In nonleague play:

Westminster 6, Montebello 5--Chris Carey went three for three with a triple and three RBIs for Westminster (7-6), which scored four runs in the first and two in the second.
