Have Permit, Will Carry Guns

Share

* Sheriff Mike Carona knows that the only time a woman needs a gun is when she needs one desperately.

Carona recently fulfilled a campaign promise by saying that he will issue concealed-weapons permits to Orange County residents who demonstrate a need, have passed a gun-safety training course and interview with a deputy sheriff, and provide fingerprints for a background check.

Anyone who’s nuts, has a spousal abuse history or managed to earn a felony conviction need not apply.

All the states surrounding California and 32 states in all issue concealed-weapons permits, but less than 1% of the citizens request one.

It doesn’t bother the cops a bit that these folks are toting a revolver. There is virtually no history of permit misuse, and this 1% is the sort that will get out of their car to come to the aid of a cop in trouble.

Years ago, when Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona started passing out their permits, they experienced a 32% reduction in violent crime.

Meantime, California’s murder rate got ridiculous. One theory and recent scientific research by the University of Chicago have it that when the predators could no longer count on Nevada and Arizona women to be defenseless, the criminals moved to California.
