U.S. Baseball Team Unbeaten at Junior Pan Am Games

The USA Baseball Junior National Team improved to 3-0 Monday in the 1999 Junior Pan Am Games with a 13-4 victory over Mexico at Universitario Stadium in Caracas, Venezuela. Mike Davern of Brea Olinda High pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Team USA opened Pan Am play with a 17-8 victory over Colombia Saturday and a 17-2 victory over Costa Rica Sunday and plays Panama at 4 today. Davern pitched one inning of relief against Colombia and Servite’s Ryan Garko had one hit and two walks in five at-bats in the first two games.

Heidi Kraus of Irvine High will swim for Yale in the fall, her parents, Hans and Laurie, said Monday. Kraus helped the Vaqueros to two Southern Section Division I championships and is also a Junior National swimmer for the Irvine Novaquatics. She will major in chemistry.

Char Taguinod of Rosary has resigned as girls’ volleyball coach, she said Monday.
