Patrick’s Homer in Ninth Gives Northridge 2-1 Win

Kevin Patrick’s ninth-inning home run lifted Cal State Northridge to a 2-1 victory over Cal State Los Angeles in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at Northridge.

Patrick’s one-out homer, his seventh, capped a comeback by Northridge (21-26), which trailed, 1-0, in the eighth inning.

The Matadors pulled even in the eighth when Jason Watkins scored from third on a throwing error by catcher Matt Lucas.

Cal State Los Angeles (12-30-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth when Steve Isbell scored from third on an error by shortstop J.T. Stotts.

Mike Frick (3-0) relieved starter Mike Rainer in the eighth and allowed three hits in two innings. Rainer struck out three, walked two and allowed three hits in seven innings.

Patrick and Jason Gorman each had two hits for the Matadors, who had seven hits and stranded five baserunners.

Patrick had a leadoff single in the second inning. Gorman had two singles.
