Rodney Anderson, a 6-foot-1 guard from L.A. Washington High, has signed to play basketball at Cal State Fullerton, Titan Coach Bob Hawking said.

Hawking said he expects to sign one more player this spring. The Titans signed 6-8 forward Patrick Ceresa of Vacallo, Switzerland, in the early signing period.

J.R. Christ, a 6-foot-8 center from Hutchinson (Kan.) College, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at UC Irvine.

Christ averaged five points and four rebounds last season for Hutchinson, which finished 23-8. He spent one season at Colorado, where he redshirted, and has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 52nd annual Newport-to-Ensenada Race begins at noon today when more than 500 yachts in about 20 classes will launch in 10-minute intervals in the ocean off Newport Bay.

Considered the world’s largest international yacht race, the 125-mile trek typically involves more than 10,000 participants. Best viewing is from the end of the Balboa Peninsula or on the bluffs of Corona del Mar.

Ryan Hanson, who threw for 31 touchdowns last season, and Trevell Jackson, Orange County’s second-leading rusher, head a list of North players for the 40th North-South All-Star football game July 9 at Orange Coast College.

The North team will be coached by Jim Kunau of Orange Lutheran against a South team directed by Woodbridge’s Rick Gibson.

Cal State Fullerton has announced the signing of two cross-country runners. Bryce Lighthall was seventh in the state Division III championships competing for Redding Enterprise High. Vikram Mahan of Norwalk High was ninth in the Division II championship.

Orange County soccer players Hannah Cochran and Tiffany Landgraff have signed letters of intent to attend Long Beach State.

Hannah Cochran, a four-year varsity goalkeeper at Mission Viejo High, recorded 10 shutouts and gave up only 15 goals in the 1998-99 season for the Diablos.

A right toe injury limited Landgraff, a defender at Capistrano Valley High, to eight games.

Brad Olson, who played varsity soccer three years at Laguna Hills High and two years at Irvine Valley College, has signed to attend Concordia, Eagle Coach Greg Morales announced.
