Saddleback Wins Golf Team Title

Saddleback’s Brian Miller was the medalist and the Gauchos won the team title Monday at the 36-hole Orange Empire Conference golf championships at Singing Hills Golf Course in El Cajon.

Miller had rounds of 73 and 69 on the par-72 course to finish with 142. Palomar’s Paul Spangler (145) was second and Steve Bendt (147) of Santa Ana and teammate Peter Hergert (147) tied for third.

Saddleback’s team total was 749 and Santa Ana was second at 758. Palomar had 774 and Riverside finished with 775.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 8, Saddleback 0 (5, mercy)--Koral King had a three-run double in the fourth inning as host Cypress (48-7, 17-1) clinched its fourth consecutive conference title.

King, a left fielder, also made two running catches and threw out a runner at third base for Cypress, which has won the last two state titles.
