U.S. Blanks Saudis for Third Place

The U.S. men’s soccer team defeated Saudi Arabia, 2-0, Tuesday to take third place in the Confederations Cup.

The victory capped a strong performance in the tournament by the U.S., which defeated Germany, 2-0, came close to tying Brazil--the favorite against Mexico in today’s final--in a 1-0 match.

The U.S. goals came at the 26th minute from Paul Bravo and at the 79th minute from Brian McBride.

Bravo beat the Saudi defense on a breakaway and sliced a clean shot into the goal. McBride’s score came on a header. The U.S. played much of the second half down one player, after Matt McKeon was ejected at the 64-minute mark on penalties.
