Speeds to Change on a Few Streets

Share

Drivers in Camarillo will soon find changes in the speed limit on some of their streets.

After reviewing the speed limits on 14 streets, city transportation officials have decided to change the speed limit on a few.

The California Vehicle Code requires that speed zones be based on traffic engineering studies no more than 5 years old, said Tom Fox, city transportation and traffic engineer.

“If the studies are older than 5 years, the vehicle code defines the zones as speed traps, and consequently citations, evidence and testimony are inadmissible in court,” he said.

Each speed zone is reviewed every four years, with prevailing speeds, accident history, and street, traffic and roadside conditions taken into consideration.

“For most of the streets surveyed this year, the speed limits do not need to change,” Fox said.

Streets with new speed limits are:

*Beardsley Road, which will see a reduction from 50 mph to 45 mph from Calle De Debesa to 300 feet east of Wright Road.

*Valley Vista Road from Vista Del Mar Avenue to Crestview Avenue, increasing from 35 mph to 40 mph.

*A new segment of Flynn Road between Adolfo and Upland roads, with a posted 40 mph limit.

*Also, Cerro Vista Way, a new street, is designated as 35 mph from Los Posas Road to Calle Higuera.

Mission Oaks Boulevard’s speed remains at 45 mph between Adolfo and Flynn roads for now but could be updated because that portion of the boulevard has been widened from two to four lanes.

Other roads reviewed include Arneill Road, Camarillo Springs Road, Central Avenue, Charter Oak Road, Las Posas Road, Los Pueblos Drive, Oak Canyon Road, Pancho Road and Pleasant Valley Road.
