Zodiac Loses in Shootout

P.J. Brown scored in the eighth round of the shootout to give San Diego a 2-1 victory over the Zodiac in an A-League soccer game Friday in San Diego.

Kenny Hesse of the Zodiac scored the game’s first goal when he kicked the ball about 30 yards and got it past goalkeeper Tom Tate in the 37th minute.

San Diego already had lost Carlos Farias, the league’s top scorer who was ejected after his second yellow card in the 26th minute.

Mauricio Alegre of the Flash came back to tie the score when he made a short-range shot in the 41st minute mark.

It was a defensive struggle the rest of the way and the shootout was tied, 4-4, when Brown scored the deciding goal.
