Thumb Injury Sidelines Mota

Share

Tony Mota, the leading hitter for the double-A San Antonio Missions, had surgery on Thursday to repair torn ligaments in his left thumb and will miss the remainder of the season. Mota injured the thumb Tuesday in an outfield collision against Arkansas.

Mota, 21, is the son of former Dodger player and current coach Manny Mota, and had been in the middle of a breakthrough season. At the time of the injury he led the Missions in batting average (.325), home runs (15), runs batted in (75) and doubles (31). Each of those marks was a career high for Mota.

Mota will not participate in any baseball activities for three weeks and will not be able to swing a bat for six to eight weeks.
