Police on Friday arrested a man suspected of killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident Thursday night.

Investigators arrested Jeffery Allen, 40, about 10:30 a.m., said Det. Tom Whetzel of the LAPD Valley Traffic Division.

Allen, of Newbury Park, was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run felony manslaughter and will be arraigned Tuesday at Van Nuys Municipal Court, Whetzel said.

The pedestrian, Oscar Armando Gonzalez, 36, was in the intersection of Tampa Avenue and Sherman Way when he was struck at 11:10 p.m.

Whetzel said Gonzalez was walking near the outlines of the crosswalk when he was hit. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police believe Allen abandoned the truck at Ventura Boulevard and Winnetka Avenue.

Police recovered the vehicle, which had damage to the front and was leaking fluid, about 1 a.m, Whetzel said.

Investigators arrested Allen at his house after tracking the truck’s registered owner, Whetzel said.
