An arsonist who set a vehicle afire sparked a blaze that blackened 50 acres Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

There were no injuries, and no structures were damaged in the fire that began around 2 p.m. along Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, according to U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Gail Wright.

She said firefighters found a burned vehicle along the road and believe it had been intentionally torched.

As many as 200 firefighters battled the blaze in mountainous terrain and heavy brush. They were aided by water-dropping helicopters supplied by the fire departments of Los Angeles County, the city of Los Angeles and San Bernardino County, and by air tankers, Wright said.

The fire was fully contained about 4:40 p.m. with full control expected by 8 p.m., Wright said.
