Animals Deserve a Better Fate

Share

* The Aug. 6 article about the Orange County Animal Shelter still haunts me.

The picture of the dog attempting to resist being placed in the cage should awaken all Orange County citizens to the plight of wonderful animals who, daily, are put to death for no reason except for their having been abused, abandoned or lost.

Let us all work toward humane, no-killing shelters where they can be cared for in dignity and be placed in loving, responsible homes.

Meanwhile, let us hope our supervisors will wake up to the plight of these animals and allot money to the improvement of the shelter.

A campaign of more articles, pictures and shelter open houses would be a good place to start, while our municipalities work toward financing and organizing their own shelters, protecting animals from being euthanized.

Look to the cities of Irvine, Mission Viejo, Dana Point and San Clemente for the best examples of how a shelter could be organized.

Regretfully, San Juan Capistrano has not seen fit to go forward with a project such as this.
