Dozens of Lightning-Ignited Fires Burn in Northern California

CHICO, Calif. — Firefighters battled dozens of lightning-ignited wildfires Monday in Northern California.
Officials urged residents of about 50 homes to leave the Cohasset area north of Chico, where a blaze had burned more than 1,000 acres.
A fire of more than 500 acres near Forest Ranch prompted a separate advisory evacuation, said California Department of Forestry spokeswoman Teri Howeth.
More than three dozen other lightning-caused blazes in Butte County were small, but firefighters were hampered by winds and high temperatures. The lightning, some of it without rain, swept through the area, starting fires beginning early Monday morning.
Several other small blazes were burning in Shasta, Tehama and Lassen counties, officials said.
